Guesher (bridge) is the name of the group that assembles
the adults in our community. It is the bridge that unites two generations
one of them, the younger one, made it possible the meeting with
our past, history and feelings as Jews.
This group was created in 1997. It is formed by
adults ages 35-55 from the three synagogues of the country to experience
a unique event The Majanots. These events are celebrated once a
year. In addition, they come together once a month to make activities,
outdoor games and share Judaic experiences. Above all, these activities
aim at preserving Judaism in Cuba.
Our motto is “Kol ha olam kuló guesher
ksar mehod, ve ha ikar lo lefajed klal” as Rabbi Najman said:
The world is a narrow bridge everyone must go by, the important
thing is to do it without being afraid.
Learning, Sharing and transmitting are our key words.
For this group it is a rewarding and lucky experience to live as
it cultivates our Judaism
In November, The National Majané was celebrated
in coordination with the JDC. The province of Cienfuegos holds the
140 representatives of all the communities of the country. This
is a good chance for friends and families who live far away from
each other to get together.
The topic in this Majané around which the
activities were prepared were the Jewish Personatilies. In this
way, participants could learn more about Rambam, Rashi, Baal Shem
tov, and other important personalities of the modern history of
Israel, such as Golda Meir and David Ben Gurión.
There was also a place for comedy. Based on the
suggestions from the madrijim, the participants represented different
Jewish celebreities from the field of Arts. It was then, that during
the evening activities the Cuban grace was present as the different
Kvutzot performed as Chaplin, Barbra Streisand or Woody Allen. The
rikudim and traditional Cuban dances as salsa were also present,
as an expression of the shared joy.
